Message from the President
One of the challenges of living in an archipelago is on how to possibly bring communications and information accessible to all parties separated by land and sea. In
the age of technological advancements, the world has become smaller and people became more intercon-
nected with each other. The Philippine Pediatric Dental
Society, Inc. aims to respond to this challenge by bring-
ing the Society closer to its members and easily avail-
able to parents, health professionals and other people who may have an interest in pediatric dentistry in the
Philippines and the rest of the globe. It is with pride that we present to you this milestone marking the celebration of PPDSI's 18th Anniversary. Welcome to www.ppdsi.org and to
the wonderful world of the Philippine Pediatric Dental Society, Inc.
Dr. Maritess Oliveros-Villarico
PPDSI President (2011-2013)
About PPDSI
The Philippine Pediatric Dental
Society, Inc. (PPDSI) had its begin-
nings as a collaborative undertaking
of a team of general dentists and
Pediatric Dentistry specialists whose
goal is in the advancement of quality
pediatric dentistry as it serves the
Filipino people. It is a non-stock non-profit organization
registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission
and is recognized as the pediatric dentistry group affiliate
of the Philippine Dental Association.
Through the years, the PPDSI was able to establish affilia-
tions with different national and international professional
organizations – it is a founding member society of the
Pediatric Dentistry Association of Asia (PDAA) and a
member society of the International Association of
Pediatric Dentistry (IAPD).
In January 2011, it has been granted accreditation by
the Board of Dentistry of the Philippine Regulation
Commission as the specialty group in the field of pediatric
dentistry in the country. The PPDSI is nationally
identified as the leader in the oral health care of children
and adolescents and the mentally, physically and
emotionally-challenged patients. The Society's major
thrusts are SERVICE, TRAINING and RESEARCH.

In the hope of reactivating membership and encouraging more support from the members, we have started to update the directory for better information dissemination. The Membership Committee has also updated membership categories based on the September 2007 Resolution amending the membership categories. Starting this term, the Membership Committee would like to inform all members that renewal of membership status is due on an annual basis, i.e. February of every year and in addition to paying the annual dues, members must submit themselves to a points system in tracking their participation in the PPDSI acitivities. This significant innovation in the renewal process is the Points System. The Points System is the submission of a self-evaluation using the Points Form which details the credit points a member accumulated over the past year through various activities. Please refer to the Point System for the Annual Renewal of Membership contained in the Members’ Corner of www.ppdsi.org for further information. This renewal process will start in February 2012. It is important to have a consistent active membership in order to continue to enjoy the benefits and privileges due every member.
For any questions regarding the Points System and the Annual Renewal of Membership process or inquiries on membership status please contact the Membership Committee.

Flouride Guidelines
The Philippine Pediatric Dental Society Inc. formed a Special
Committee on Fluoride made up of the Society's Past Presidents for the
purpose of coming up with recommendations to guide
interested parties on the use of
fluoride-containing products. A series of workshops were held starting February 2010 and culminating in the presentation, deliberation and approval of the members of the Society of these evidence-based guidelines simultaneous with the August 17, 2011 seminar held at the St. Lukes Medical Center Global City. All points stated in the Fluoride Guidelines were based on various articles and researches which went under the Cochrane Review and were in close consultation with known experts in the field of fluoride and Preventive Dentistry.
